Temperature Modified Tuff Timber

This process heats the wood in a controlled environment for approximately 4 days at 90 degrees centigrade.  This renders mechanical and strength properties similar or better than comparable hardwoods ( see table below ).

The durability of the base material increases significantly from Class 3 (Malaysian Timber Board) to Class 1 or 2.

Importantly, this product ( process treated wood ) is low maintenance - having greater protection against moisture and insect attack..

The material can be worked in exactly the same way as raw wood.

Table of characteristics

Significant improvements in performance occur when Acacia and Rubberwood are temperature modified.  For example, the modulus of rupture of modified Rubberwood increases to 121 N/mm2 from an untreated 72 N/mm2. The treated results for Rubberwood are higher than Meranti and Merbau and similar to Balau; treated Acacia exceeds even these performance levels.
